Blackhurst Aviation started in 2008 when founder Michael Blackhurst — a lifelong aviation enthusiast and A&P mechanic — saw a need for quality aircraft painting services in northern Minnesota.
What began as a one-man operation in a converted dairy barn has grown into a 12,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility. But our core values remain the same: meticulous attention to detail, honest communication, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
Today, we serve aircraft owners from across the Midwest, from private pilots flying single-engine Cessnas to corporations operating fleet jets. Every aircraft receives the same level of care — because to us, every plane is someone's dream taking flight.

Michael Blackhurst
Founder & Lead Technician
With over 25 years in aviation maintenance, Michael brings deep expertise in structural repairs and finishing work. An FAA-certified A&P mechanic since 1999, he's passionate about mentoring the next generation of aviation professionals.
David Kowalski
Master Painter
David is our paint department lead with 18 years of aerospace finishing experience. He's completed advanced training at AkzoNobel and PPG's aircraft paint facilities. When not in the hangar, he restores vintage motorcycles.
Jennifer Hayes
Quality Control Manager
Jennifer ensures every aircraft that leaves our facility meets our exacting standards. Her background in aerospace manufacturing quality control brings systematic rigor to our operations. She also manages customer relations.
